What is Dysport™?
Dysport™ is extracted from bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Dysport ™has been marketed outside the U.S. since 1991 and was first approved for aesthetic use in 2001. It has been used to treat millions of patients. Many articles in the United States regarding this drug refer to it as Reloxin. The FDA mandated that the drug be branded under its original name, Dysport (not Reloxin) prior to its April 2009 FDA approval.
How is Dysport™ used?
Dr. West will inject very small amounts of Dysport™ with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When Dysport™ is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area and, as a result, the muscle is immobilized. As the muscle relaxes the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and disappear. Many physicians have reported that Dysport™ has a quicker onset and longer longevity than its competitor Botox Cosmetic®
