Tumescent liposuction is used for the removal of fat that is often inherited and frequently impossible to eliminate by diet and exercise. The liposuction procedure is so precise that it can be used on delicate areas, such as inner thighs, arms, chin and neck. The most commonly treated areas include the tummy, hips, love handles, knees, outer thighs and “bra fat”.
How is the liposuction procedure performed?
The localized areas of fat are numbed with a special saline solution that helps shrink the blood vessels and minimize bruising. The solution fills the area to be treated making the fatty tissue separate from the muscle. Dr. West uses Vasers® patented innovative ultrasound technology to break down and remove the fatty tissue while leaving the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue largely undisturbed. The liquefied fat is easily removed through a small cannula. Vaser® technology’s unique process allows the skin to retract more readily after the procedure and decreases the pain and bruising.
How is Tumescent Liposuction with Vaser® different than Traditional Liposuction.
Tumescent liposuction is performed using local anesthesia which is much safer for the patient than traditional liposuction which requires general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction also uses a smaller cannula than traditional liposuction. This cannula allows for more precise sculpting during liposuction. The use of Vaser® technology with tumescent liposuction targets only the unwanted fat while leaving other important tissue intact. The Vaser® system liquefies the fat making it easier to remove from the body which promotes smoother results, rapid healing, with low to minimal discomfort. The procedure is minimally-invasive compared to traditional liposuction which uses a larger cannula and can damage blood vessels and connective tissue while suctioning out the underlying fat.
