Photodynamic Therapy
PDT treatment is FDA-approved for the treatment of actinic keratoses (AK's), which are rough, scaly precancerous patches of skin caused by excessive exposure to the sun.

HOW IS PDT AND LEVULAN KERASTICK USED? The process is a 2-step treatment. The LEVULAN KERASTICK is applied to the skin for one hour prior to treatment so the cells being treated (precancers, acne, enlarged oil glands) have time to absorb the photosensitizing solution. The skin is then exposed to a specific "blue light" available in the office. Some patients may feel a stinging and burning sensation during treatment, which usually improves immediately after treatment and resolves within 24 hours or less. Treated skin must be protected from light for 36 hours following the PDT procedure.
